In 1941, when it seemed that the complete conquest of Europe was only a matter of time, the leadership of the Third Reich decided to carry out the 'Final Solution of the Jewish Question'. All Jews, regardless of their age, sex, or views, were to be killed. The methods used in this racist policy were starvation in ghettos, executions, and in the end murder on a mass scale in gas chambers in several extermination camps. Auschwitz became the largest of these centers. (The Auschwitz - Birkenau Memorial. A Guidebook. 2016)
